Denying Jesus

Today is the twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time.

At the end of today’s Gospel Jesus says that “whoever denies me before others I will deny before my Heavenly Father.” How do we deny Jesus?

Jesus tells us to love God and others. To love as He loves. To care for the poor and those in need. There are so many ways we might deny Jesus by simply not doing what He has commanded us.

It’s so easy to let the things of the world take over our attention and time. To put worldly concerns first instead of heavenly concerns. Look around and be honest with yourself about the times we deny Jesus in what we do and what we fail to do. Then, take action to change where you need to change. That’s how we all are called to live.

There’s something in electronics called a phase locked loop (PLL). It’s a circuit that monitors something and then makes an adjustment to get back on target. We need our own internal PLL. When we find we’re not doing as we ought we need to change. If we’re not doing that, making those adjustments and changing our behavior, we’re in real trouble.

So, I hope you’ll look honestly about how you deny Jesus and make those adjustments.

This is Vacation Bible School season in most places. Ours starts tomorrow. We have 185 kids (plus a waitlist) and 90 volunteers. I’m not really involved but Connie is so I know what’s going on. I pray those kids will have an encounter of Christ and will be moved by it. The team too. There are children who aren’t Christians yet, let alone Catholic, attending and this is a great opportunity for them to be exposed to the love of Christ made manifest in the Church. I see yours kicks off tomorrow as well. Let’s all pray for these kids and volunteers to have a fruitful week.

I see you have the Garden Party this week as well. We miss that. I hope you all have a great time and the weather holds up for it.

Finally, happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. Prayers for all of you and for those in Heaven.

That’s it for now. Thanks for reading.

I hope you have a great week.

Peace, Bob
