All Things Catholic and Then Some

How Long Lord?

Today is the twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time.

In today’s first reading, from the prophet Habakkuk, we hear a selection that could easily have come from any of us today. It goes to show that the world has changed in some ways, but in the most basic ways of men, it has not.

We suffer in many ways. There is violence all around; there is suffering of the poor and of the rich, though in different ways, but still, all are suffering in some way; we are poorly ruled; we are in dire straits.

I ran into someone last week, a protestant, who claimed to see the End Times, a preparation for the Rapture, in today’s world. I get it but I’m sure every generation has seen the same thing. No man knows the hour when Jesus will return. Time we spend trying to figure out when He will return is time not spent in preparation for our own death, whenever that happens.

My advice, not that anyone asked for it, is to spend time on your own spiritual advancement, growing closer to Christ, and less time on all the things of the world that are broken. That’s not to say we shouldn’t try to make this world better, we should. I’m just saying it’s easy to see all the evil and get distracted to the things that matter most.

Remember that we are people of hope. We know how things will end but we need to stay alert and be prepared. Don’t let the world distract you from what matters most.

That’s it for now. Thanks for reading.

I hope you have a great week.

Peace, Bob
