All Things Catholic and Then Some

The Mystery of the Holy Trinity

Today is Trinity Sunday.

The mystery of the Holy Trinity is the central mystery of our faith. How is it that we have three distinct persons sharing the same Divine nature? We don’t know, and I suspect we won’t understand it until we enjoy the Beatific Vision in Heaven. Some things we just have to accept given our diminished intellect. When St. Paul said “for now we see through a mirror dimly” this is partly what he meant. We just have to wait for understanding.

I don’t know about you but I continue to be impressed with Pope Leo XIV. Connie and I watched the celebration from Chicago yesterday (Saturday) afternoon. I liked the comments from his Augustinian friend and former classmate as well as from his former teacher at CTU. It was interesting that the Archdiocese had it at whatever they’re calling White Sox ballpark these days. It was a moment of City pride on display. The boys choir being from Leo High School, named for Pope Leo XIII, was a nice touch too. Of course, the real highlight was the recorded message from Pope Leo, primarily aimed at young people. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zv_HODaWU7c

It’s a small thing but how great is it to hear a pope speak in his native English?

Connie and I are preparing for a two week vacation so I’m moving up the start of my summer hiatus by two weeks. If something really big happens in the Catholic world I’ll jump back in, but now that our previous Pope has died and we have a new Pope I don’t expect that to happen. Barring something major you’ll hear from me again on the Sunday following Labor Day.

We all know there are dreadful things happening in our country right now. I hope you’ll join me in praying for our country this summer and ask God to help us become the country He wants us to be. Not my will, but yours, Lord.

Come Holy Spirit!

That’s it for now. Thanks for reading.

I hope you have a great summer.

Peace, Bob
