Today is the fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Yesterday, Friday, I heard a homily that made me think about the craziness of our world. Essentially the priest was talking about the chaos and disorder of the world that we’re experiencing. Whether we’re talking about politicians, entertainers, or whoever, there’s someone trying to push their agenda on us. Some aspects of that agenda may be agreeable but many may not be, particularly to Christians.
The priest even commented about Social Media influencers.
I think the priest came up with the idea for his homily from the line in the first reading, from Hebrews that says: Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today, and forever.
That should be reassuring to us. No matter what’s going on around us, near or far, we should stay grounded in Jesus. Fads, even governments, come and go but Jesus is always there and always the same.
For those of us who are disturbed at current events we should ground ourselves in Jesus and ride out the storms of life. That doesn’t mean we don’t care about what’s going on, we should, but we should keep everything in perspective.
Keep praying and, when you can, attend Adoration. Attend Mass of course. Be around others who are also drawing close to Jesus and lift up one another.
I agree with Pope St. John XXIII who said the Church should not turn in on itself but should engage with the culture. But, in troubling times this Barque of Peter, with Jesus at the helm, can be our place of peace and reassurance that God is still in control regardless of what chaos reigns at any given moment.
I had a priest/instructor in Lay Ministry formation that said “in the end God is going to have His way.” Indeed.
That’s it for now. Thanks for reading.
I hope you have a great week.
Peace, Bob
